It’s that time of the year again! Everyone is getting ready to throw out the past year and start planning for an even better new year. 2022 was a great year for me: I got my better job, I got married, I won an iPad mini 6 worth RM2299, I saved a fair chunk towards my housing loan account, I learned some new skills and I would say I have become a lot wealthier.
I’m hoping that 2023 will be just as successful for me, and I have set out some personal goals for me to achieve to become a better me.
1. Spend more time with family
Juggling the responsibilities of a job and a family is no easy feat. This year will be different as I am expecting to have my first baby. While I am adjusting to this new life, it’s important to give myself a little break and enjoy precious moments.
Being a dad isn’t about the destination, but the journey. Becoming a father for the first time can be one of the happiest times in my life, it can also be a very emotional and confusing experience. But, I will try to enjoy all that comes with it.
Not everything I do is going to be equally important, so I will learn to set priorities to better manage my time. My top priority is to create lifelong memories and see the little one growing from one milestone to the next.
2. Improve job performance
It was my pleasure to have the chance to join a Fortune 500 company early of this year. It’s a great place to kick start my career journey due to career development opportunities, learning experience and various benefits.
I consider myself a midfielder in the corporate arena as a lot of activity going on to keep the ball and daily operations moving. Midfielders need to be creative, flexible and able to adjust fast based on a given situation to ensure flawless execution, passing the ball, creating chance (solutions) and connecting the dots from defense to attack and from top line to bottom line.
Not everyone aspires to be leaders in corporate world, some would rather contribute to the company according to their skillsets.
If you don’t start with what interests you, it’s hard to sustain any momentum. I will stay curious when connected with others with shared interests. Staying curious is what makes life worth living.
3. Create a house renovation budget
House renovations can be very time consuming, costly and there’s lots that can go wrong in between. With proper planning right from the start, you can avoid unnecessary cash leaks in renovation budget. I need to make smart choices when hiring a renovation contractor to help me save money that can be invested back into my family.
With renovation cost in Malaysia going up year after year, every little bit of saving counts. I will consider these planning tips to take me through areas where I can save, get more value and avoid unnecessary costs:
Tips
1: Shop around for the right contractor
2: Assess my budget & personal finances
3: Consider why I want to renovate
4: Decide what I want to renovate
5: Going DIY
Sometimes it’s not about having a bigger home, just one that makes better use of the space you have.
4. Lose weight & Get in shape
Exercise and eating right go hand in hand. The more active you are, the more energized and empowered you’ll feel.
I will try to do more regular exercise and increase daily activity (running on treadmill, walking in the park, taking the stairs, using aerobic & weight machine at the gym, cleaning the house) to maintain and increase number of calories burn.
Never limit your dreams. Nothing is impossible.
