As we approach the end of the year, I want to take a moment to thank you for your patronage, reflect on 2020, and look ahead to 2021. This is the best time to review how the year went.
Self-reflecting is one of the best ways to maximize our learning, discover how we do our best work and improve our performance.
2020 will be unforgettable in many ways, yet I am sure we all would prefer to forget it.
I have come up with a plan on what and how I want to improve in the new year. I have broken my personal goals into 4 categories.
1. Learning
Key skills to learn in 2021
– Microsoft Office 365
– Advanced Adobe Illustrator
The first thing in my mind is to get certification course and branch out into other areas to broaden my skills and challenge myself. Achieving IT certifications via Microsoft Certification Program shows how competence you are in a specific IT role, and it can result in all kinds of work-related and personal benefits.
Creativity will always be my superpower. I pledge to further sharpen my creative skills! Whether it is discovering a new Creative Cloud app or mastering a new design technique, these resources will get myself started. I want to get to know every animation and equip myself with advanced illustration techniques so I can create drawings and sketches, then bring them to life as animations or motion graphics.
Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
2. Career
i. Better alignment with company goals
ii. Look for projects to enhance skillset
iii. Map out professional development plan
iv. Be on the look out for the next rung
In any given moment we have two choices: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety. In today’s world, there is no such thing as “business as usual”. Business environment keep changing so if we fail to adapt, then we fail to move forward.
In most of the cases, we must take courage to do something. Courage doesn’t come from the absence of fear; it comes from facing them. It requires a person to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. So, we must learn to get out of comfort zone and make a lasting impact in our career. I will keep fighting the good fight to emerge out of this stronger.
The day you stand on the peak, you will realise the view is worth the climb.
3. Finance
It’s fine to celebrate success or winning but it is more crucial to heed the lessons of failure. I have made some really bad investments in the past. But instead of sulking, these losses serve as excellent opportunities for me to grow as a good investor.
Sometimes, things may not go your way, but the effort should be there every single night. I will constantly doing research and analysis on stock investment and focus more on income investing that delivers consistent result. You don’t have to be extreme, just consistent! This is because long term consistency trumps short term intensity.
In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity. Investing into good companies might be the strategy to tide you through the current volatility and the stock will likely rebound once the virus outbreak dissipates. It always works best when investments are diversified but not spread capital out too thin else it erodes the performance of your portfolio.
Never let a crisis go to waste.
4. Heath
Aim to:
– Lose weight
– Join a gym
– Eat out less
– Measure food portions
– Eat more fruits and vegetables
Spending more time outdoors can improve health by relieving stress, elevating mood, and even lowering blood pressure.
I will consider taking a frequent walk outside, hiking on weekends, climbing the stairs to the fourth floor everyday or simply choosing an activity based on enjoyment to fit into my schedule. I will try to make a more realistic goal to increase the chances of making my new routine last.
A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.
5. Happiness
Nurturing good relationship with loved ones is one of my new year resolutions. I will be more humble & generous and add new meaning to this fresh start by taking relationship from good to great. The real charm of life is to live with the goal of loving each others.
There is no feeling greater than the feeling of making someone happy. The most important thing is do not expect anything in return. This is the real happiness that goes a long way. Perhaps it is time to plan the proposal this year.
Wherever you go, go with all your heart.
Last but not least, I want to be better and more complete person in new year. Smart people think before making big decisions. I will try to think through the consequences of every action prior to choosing how to act. It would be better if we can have backup plan for every action that we take and create a personal reminder to keep track of all of life’s to-dos to avoid missing out on anything.
What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.
Stay safe and let’s continue to do our part, stay apart but close to heart.
