Buying car insurance is compulsory according to Malaysia’s law. When you buy a car insurance policy, you will get cover for injury or death, loss or damage to your car due to unfortunate events like accident, fire, theft, death or injury or damage or loss to third party.
Car insurance premiums can be different depending on the details of your policy such as type of coverage, coverage limit, engine capacity, NCD(No Claim Discount) and etc.
Below is the example of my personal car premium calculator which may guide you to calculate how much insurance premiums you will need to pay when you take up an auto insurance policy.

Let’s assume my NCD(No claim discount) is 25%, so I can get RM322.80 discount for the sum insured of RM42,000. But, you are advisable to reduce your sum insured to current market value which probably in between RM39,000 – 42,000 in order for you to minimize your total premium. Based on my personal calculation, you will save about RM20 for every reduction of RM1,000.
